THE EQUALIZER Heads to Big Screen With Denzel Washington in Lead Role
Coming of the successful thriller Safe House, Denzel Washington is going back to kicking some ass for Sony Pictures in a big screen version of the cult 80s TV series, The Equalizer.
In the original Equalizer created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim, Edward Woodward starred as a middle aged retired intelligence officer named Robert McCall with a mysterious past who helped people in trouble.
Washington will step into the role and filming is set to begin April 8th, 2013, most likely in Boston.
Actually, Richard Wenk recently submitted a script and Sony has fast-tracked the project after reading it.
Sony Pictures shortlist of potential directors for The Equalizer includes Taken's Pierre Morel, Drive's Nicolas Winding Refn, Warrior's Gavin O'Connor, and The Raid's Gareth Evans.
The $50 million budget will go towards Washington's customary $20 million salary; a potential franchise to be boot.
As for Denzel, he's currently shooting Universal's 2 Guns with Mark Wahlberg.
We'll keep you posted as we hear more.
