First of all, I want to say that I'm really sorry that trailers for The Great Gatsby, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Iron Man 3, Life of Pie, Evil Dead, Wreck-It Ralph, Gangster Squad, Zero Dark Thirty, The Master, and so forth, failed to make the cut on the list.
This list of films is based on the YouTube's popular feature trailers of the year that received the most hits. According to Think With Google, the winner is The Dark Knight Rises – specifically the third theatrical trailer, followed by the first trailer for Skyfall (17.5 million), Seth MacFarlane's Ted (15.4 million) and The Hunger Games (12.5 million).
Even though the biggest blockbuster of the year, Joss Whedon's The Avengers, is nowhere to be found on the list, I took the liberty of adding it to the list as well as Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, J. J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, Olivier Megaton's Taken 2 and Ridley Scott's Prometheus, respectively.
The site has unveiled the Top Trailers on YouTube for 2012, which they compiled based on view count, view rate, and organic views with a spot for the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 in first place.
