Universal studio is reportedly in negotiations to acquire the rights to
LEGO's
Hero Factory line of toys.
Michael Finch and
Alex Litvak, who co-wrote Predators for Fox, would write the script, something about that is said to be both ‘distinct' and ‘dense'.
Warner Bros. already has a LEGO-based film (in development since 2008) and planned for February 28th, 2014 release; not to mention Paramount's Transformers franchise to the Candyland movie in development at Sony. Obviously, toys have grown up to become those geeky grown-ups who now make films.
This time Hero Factory would be a live-action adaptation set in the world of the mythology and would be distinct from the Warner Bros. building block-based Lego movie. The upcoming film will focus on cyborgs that ‘hail from a planet where a factory churns out robotic machines whose goal is to fight intergalactic evil.'
Finch and Litvak, no strangers to the toy-adaptation, have both worked on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Mattel) as well as Treasure Island for Fox.
