Vincent Cassel to Join Viggo Mortensen in David Cronenberg’s EASTERN PROMISES Sequel

Get ready for that Eastern Promises sequel, folks! Or even better – get ready to hear some great news about this project! First of all, no more doubts about the director's seat because David Cronenberg is back. The second thing, Viggo Mortensen is once again on board for the whole thing. And, third great news goes like this – Vincent Cassel is in some serious talks to return for the follow-up as well! So, as you already see, Steven Knight, the man who stands behind the Eastern Promises script is not going to be in charge for the whole thing, at least not as a director. According to Vulture, Cronenberg is definitely in for that job, although we previously learned that he's quite busy man these days (remember our Maps to the Stars report, right?). They also add that the sequel will pick up right where the first film left off, which is a good thing when we know that the original story centered on a Russian mobster who helps a nurse (played by Naomi Watts) to protect a baby targeted by the criminals. And we also know that Cassel was excellent playing that psychotic Kirill guy, so we have no doubts that he'll eventually say yes to the sequel. Well, you must admit that this sounds great. At the end, let us also add that the producers are planning on starting production in early 2013. So expect to hear more updates on Eastern Promises 2 as soon as possible!
