Downers Grove is the haunting and tender story of Chrissie Swanson, a paranoid high school senior for whom graduating has become a matter of life or death. She's an unusual girl in an ordinary town. Her mother's sex life is overshadowing her own; her brother is aboard his own private Enterprise, slipping into one black hole after another; her best friend is hornier than a Prince song; leaving her eccentric grandmother as the only source of wisdom in a rapid downward spiral. As Chrissie tries to take control of the events that shape her life, she finds the events beginning to take control of her, until she is finally cornered by choices with everlasting consequences. At this moment the only thing we know is that Bella Heathcote is set to play that paranoid Chrissie girl, while Zane Holtz comes on board to portray a meth-crazed sidekick to Zegers' character. Just for a record, the film adaptation of Downers Grove was first announced by Myriad Pictures three years ago, when Nelson McCormick was set to direct and Nikki Reed & Hayden Panettiere were set to star. We'll keep an eye on it, make sure you stay tuned for more updates!
Zane Holtz Joins Lucas Till & Bella Heathcote In THE CURSE OF DOWNERS GROVE!
The Curse of Downers Grove is an upcoming indie thriller which comes from director Derick Martini and already has quite interesting cast on board. In case you're not so familiar with the project, let us first inform you that the whole thing is actually an adaptation of Michael Hornbug's 2001 novel and that Lucas Till, Bella Heathcote, Penelope Mitchell and Kevin Zegers are all set to star in it. Now comes the word that Zane Holtz (last seen in The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will join them as well.
Derick Martini will direct the movie from a script he co-wrote with Bret Easton Ellis, and as we said – the movie is an adaptation of 2001's novel titled Downers Grove written by Michael Hornburg.
The movie will center on a paranoid high school senior who's worried about an apparent curse that takes the life of one student every year at the school. Or, if you prefer an official description of Hornburg's novel:
