Two new posters for “Orlando” director Sally Potter’s Ginger & Rosa have appeared online. Elle Fanning (Super 8) and newcomer Alice Englert star as two inseparable adolescents, Ginger and Rosa, in 1960s London who are thrust into the realities of the world over the backdrop of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the sexual revolution. Christina Hendricks stars as Ginger’s mother, who is struggling with her daughter’s resistance to hold onto her youth.
Additional cast include Annette Bening (American Beauty), Christina Hendricks (Drive), and Alessandro Nivola.
Here’s the synopsis for the film
London, 1962. Two teenage girls – Ginger and Rosa — are inseparable; they play truant together, discuss religion, politics and hairstyles, and dream of lives bigger than their mothers’ frustrated domesticity. But, as the Cold War meets the sexual revolution, and the threat of nuclear holocaust escalates, the lifelong friendship of the two girls is shattered – by the clash of desire and the determination to survive.
Ginger & Rosa will be screened at this year’s New York Film Festival on October 8th, 2012, opens in the U.K. on October 19th, and a U.S. release date is still to be decided.
