Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter First Look

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, remember that one? I know you do, so let's get straight to the point!

We're here to present you the first image from this movie, and, of course, to hear your thoughts. As you see, Benjamin Walker definitely looks great as Abraham Lincoln, so I'm sure you'll agree that the vampires from the title have no chance against him!

The project, produced by Tim Burton and based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith follows 16th President Abraham Lincoln from his boyhood on the frontier through his assassination by John Wilkes Booth and – because this is a vampire story – beyond.

Young Lincoln, having learned that his grandfather and mother were killed by vampires, vows to kill every last blood-sucker in a country that is crawling with them. Or, as Grahame-Smith explained it:

“There's something in the American psyche, we want our presidents to be warriors. We're giving that to Abraham Lincoln, sort of posthumously in this case.”

So, thanks to TheNewYorkTimes, who provided the image, we know that the movie “embeds Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker, within a meticulously researched, surprisingly authentic, three-dimensional past – but with vampires.”

On the other hand, director Bekmambetov described his film as a cross between D.W. Griffith's Abraham Lincoln and F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu and he also added that “what Lincoln did, was like what Jesus did 2,000 years ago: he freed people.”

Ok, that's enough for us. At the end let us remind you once again that the film stars Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson and Refus Sewell.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will open in 3D on June 22, 2012.
