Anthony LaPaglia Has Tossed His Name Into the DJANGO UNCHAINED Gang

Anthony LaPaglia

Quentin Tarantino could not make a better choice than an Aussie thesp Anthony LaPaglia to play Jano, the leader of a group of greedy Aussies who encounter slave-turned-bounty hunter Django (Jamie Foxx) as they are escorting a group of slaves recently purchased as fighters. Furthermore, LaPaglia who largely put his film career on hold to star in TV drama Without A Trace, told Deadline he and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play ‘mean brothers” in the Tarantino's spaghetti western, which he describes as ‘wildly ambitious and imaginative' as it ‘deals with that subject matter in a way it hasn't been dealt with before.' So, they will be a pair of vicious types who meet Jamie Foxx's Django and we are going to guess the encounter does not go well for them. The roles are said to be small, but they go better toward the end of the film. LaPaglia says Tarantino's script is ‘wildly ambitious and imaginative,' and adds that it ‘deals with that subject matter in a way it hasn't been dealt with before.' Among LaPaglia's many film credits are the political thriller Balibo, Winter Solstice, Lantana, and The Client. Tony Award winner LaPaglia and Gordon-Levitt join a cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, M.C. Gainey, Don Johnson, Tom Savini and Kerry Washington. Unless Unchained, which filming is expected to begin in New Orleans in January will be three hours long, Tarantino's challenge will be finding time for every face. It opens next Christmas. LaPaglia will next be seen in PJ Hogan's new comedy drama Mental. Check him out in the trailer for Balibo (2009), a political thriller that tells the true story of crimes that have been covered up for over thirty years. He plays a real life Australian reporter.
