Columbia Pictures has selected Brie Larson to play Molly, the female lead in the upcoming film adaptation of 21 Jump Street.
Toni Collette's naughty and sarcastic daughter in Showtime's “United States of Tara.” has joined Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube in the TV-to-film adaptation “21 Jump Street.”
Some of her past film credits includes Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Greenberg, Hoot and 13 Going on 30. She was also a talented pop rock singer/songwriter. Deadline reports that Larson will take over the role that Emma Stone previously was forced to live to make time in her schedule for The Amazing Spider-Man.
The film will be based on the Fox Network's television series that aired from April 1987 to April 1991, with a total of 103 episodes. The television series focused on the cases of an undercover police unit consisted of youthful looking officers that specialized in underage crime among high schools, college and other teenage hangouts.
The original television series was co-created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell. The series also helped initiate the career of Johnny Depp. Depp played LAPD officer Tom Hanson (replacing Jeff Yagher) through the first four seasons of the show that made him a star.
The directing team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) will coach this project, produced by Neil Moritz. Both Hill and Tatum are executive producers for the flick.
The production for the pics will begin shooting in April. The film is anticipated to be released next year on March 16.
I'm not too familiar with Larson work with the exception of her role as Envy Adams in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” What do you think of Brie in the film adaptation of “21 Jump Street?”
