Here's the new teaser trailer for HBO's
Behind the Candelabra, starring
Michael Douglas as the extravagant showman Liberace and
Matt Damon as his much-younger lover, Scott Thorson.
A new 30-second finally gives you a look at the new
Steven Soderbergh movie with Hollywood heavyweights Matt and Michael sharing a sexy bath, wearing glittery outfits, and there is some piano playing, of course.
Behind the Candelabra is still expected to play at this year's Cannes Film Festival ahead of its May 26th, 2013 airing on HBO.
Soderbergh has
previously said the film ultimately landed at HBO because no major company would fund the risqué film.
Nobody would make it. We went to everybody in town. We needed $5 million. Nobody would do it. They said it was too gay. Everybody. This was after Brokeback Mountain, by the way, which is not as funny as this movie. I was stunned. It made no sense to any of us.
The script penned by
Richard LaGravenese (Water for Elephants) is based on Thorson's autobiography, ‘Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace.'
A Liberace biopic also stars
Dan Aykroyd, Rob Lowe, Debbie Reynolds, Scott Bakula and
Paul Reiser.
Give the new trailer a watch.
Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace: virtuoso pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television. A name synonymous with showmanship, extravagance and candelabras, he was a world-renowned performer with a flair that endeared him to his audiences and created a loyal fan base spanning his 40-year career. Liberace lived lavishly and embraced a lifestyle of excess both on and off stage. In summer 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson walked into his dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair. Behind the Candelabra takes a behind-the-scenes look at their tempestuous relationship–from their first meeting backstage at the Las Vegas Hilton to their bitter and public break-up.
