In a delightful nod to nostalgia, Focus Features has unveiled a new trailer celebrating the 20th anniversary of Joe Wright's acclaimed adaptation of Jane Austen's “Pride & Prejudice.” This re-release invites both ardent fans and new audiences to experience the enduring romance of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy on the big screen once more.

Released in 2005, “Pride & Prejudice” marked Joe Wright's directorial debut and quickly became a cinematic gem. The film stars Keira Knightley as the spirited Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as the enigmatic Mr. Darcy. The ensemble cast also includes Brenda Blethyn, Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, Jena Malone, Tom Hollander, Penelope Wilton, and Judi Dench. The narrative, set in the early 19th century, explores themes of love, class, and societal expectations, resonating with audiences worldwide.

Upon its initial release, the film garnered critical acclaim, earning four Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Knightley. It achieved significant box office success, grossing over $120 million globally against a $28 million budget.

To commemorate this milestone, Focus Features has not only released a new trailer but also collaborated with candle maker Mise en Scènt to create a unique “What Excellent Boiled Potatoes” candle. Priced at $36, this candle pays homage to a memorable line delivered by Mr. Collins in the film. Fans can purchase this and other themed merchandise, such as enamel pins, floral tote bags, and crop tops, through the NBC Store.

The 20th-anniversary edition of “Pride & Prejudice” is set to grace select U.S. theaters starting April 20, 2025. This re-release offers a splendid opportunity for audiences to immerse themselves in the lush cinematography, evocative score by Dario Marianelli, and the palpable chemistry between Knightley and Macfadyen. For those who prefer streaming, the film is also available on Netflix as part of its March lineup, ensuring that the magic of this classic tale is accessible to a broad audience.

Over the past two decades, “Pride & Prejudice” has solidified its status as a beloved adaptation, often cited among the best romantic films. Its portrayal of Elizabeth Bennet's journey has also earned it a place among notable female coming-of-age stories in cinema. The film's enduring appeal lies in its faithful yet fresh take on Austen's work, capturing the essence of the novel while offering a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience.

The 20th-anniversary re-release of “Pride & Prejudice” serves as a testament to the film's enduring charm and the timeless nature of Jane Austen's storytelling. Joe Wright's direction, combined with stellar performances—especially by Keira Knightley—breathes life into a narrative that continues to captivate audiences. Whether you're revisiting this classic or experiencing it for the first time, the film's exploration of love, societal norms, and personal growth remains profoundly relevant. This celebration not only honors a cinematic achievement but also invites reflection on the universal themes that connect us across time.
