David O. Russell Is Ready For The Fighter Sequel

Mark Wahlberg, Melissa Leo and Christian Bale in The Fighter

I'm sure you're all interested in the upcoming The Fighter sequel, so let's start with the latest news. And they come straight from quite chatty Mark Wahlberg, who, as you know, produced the movie and starred as boxer Micky Ward.

Apparently, we'll soon have a chance to watch the sequel that would “focus on the trilogy of fights between Ward and Arturo Gatti.” Good enough for you? Check out the rest of this report then.

So, we previously learned “that everyone, including Oscar-winners Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, had such a great time that Wahlberg couldn't imagine them not wanting to return.”

But now, the question is – will David O.Russell return for the sequel as well? Well, guess what, it looks that Russell loves that idea!

In an interview with MTV News, he revealed:

“I think that would be awesome. I just love those characters and I think we could do a lot of fun and interesting stuff.” and added: “I think Micky's story has a lot of heart whichever way you cut it. You'd go towards the Gatti fights and you could go into the history of the family more. I really like the sisters.”

But one thing is for sure, Russell is ready for writing the upcoming story: “I would do it whenever anyone says they're ready, I'm ready to write it.”

Let me remind you that The Fighter made up to $100 million at the U.S. box office, but probably the most important thing is a critical success as well as Oscar wins for co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.

And that makes The Fighter sequel quite promising, don't you think?
