Robert de Niro, the Academy Award-winning actor, who is heading this year's Cannes Film Festival judging panel, will star alongside Diane Keaton in Justin Zackham‘s, brand new indie comedy in the works.
Gently down the Stream is the name of the new flick that revolves around a divorced couple (De Niro and Keaton) who pretend that they are still married during their adopted sons wedding, in order to avoid offending his birth mother. They quickly learn that acting the part isn't as easy as it looks, especially when their whole lives begin to appear for all to see.
In addition to De Niro and Keaton, the movie will also star two fair-haired young actresses in Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried. The roles to be played by Heigl and Seyfried are not mentioned yet, though you should easily imagine that one of them will play the bride-to-be.
The Bucket List writer Justin Zackham will make his directing debut with Gently down the Stream, helming from his own original screenplay. Here's what he had to say in his own words:
I'm excited to be able to continue what we started with The Bucket List – iconic actors in a funny, adult, character-driven story, albeit with a little more sex and bad behavior on everyone's part. Nu Image/Millenium has been a great partner and I'm honored to have such an amazing cast.”
Production is slated to begin on wedding comedy in July, on location in Grenwich, Connecticut. Gently down the Stream hit theaters sometimes in 2013.
Katherine Heigl, best known as Dr.Izzie Stevens and Amanda Seyfried are both good actresses who have done a string of forgettable movies. On the other side the idea of De Niro and Keaton to team up for the first time since Marvin's Room may look good on paper, but need to deliver on big-screen.
However, it will be interesting to hear how people react to the news of this project. What do you think?
