Deadwood Creator David Milch to Adapt Video Game Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain

Every time we hear that some new movie based on some video game is coming – we're little bit disappointed. Why? Because in the end it turns out to be just another boring movie. But, you know, things may change this time, because David Milch has just signed on to pen the adaptation of the noir-style videogame Heavy Rain. He's the man responsible for creating NYPD Blue and Deadwood, remember? Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne will produce project titled Rain through their Unique Features banner, but Milch won't begin work on the project until he's finished writing up season one of the new HBO horse-racing series ‘Luck'. Just in case you're wondering if this man is actually a good choice for an adaptation like this, here's what producer Shaye had to say: “David Milch's incredible ability to transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us to have on Heavy Rain. Heavy Rain is a macabre, psychological thriller that revolves around the Origami Killer, a mysterious murderer who abducts his victims and kills them after four days by drowning them in heavy rainfall, always leaving a calling-card in the form of a folded paper structure. The game follows everyman Ethan Mars as he attempts to save his kidnapped son before it's too late – while at the same time, FBI profiler Norman Jayden, investigative journalist Madison Paige, and the private eye Scott Shelby strive to find clues that will allow them to discover the Origami Killer's true identity. The game was created by Paris-based Quantic Dream, developers of “Indigo Prophecy,” and built around a 2,000-page script written by founder and CEO David Cage. Unique's Dylan Sellers and Jonna Smith will join Shaye and Lynne in the development of the project along with Warner exec Courtenay Valenti. Sounds interesting, or what?
