Disney Converting The Lion King to 3D
Folks from Disney are unstoppable! Oh, no, what are they up to now? Relax, they are only converting something into 3D. And that something is The Lion King.
Producer Don Hahn is working on that now, and if everything goes as planned, we should all expect the updated African tale to hit theaters sometime in 2011.
So, as you see, it's not all about Beauty and the Beast! Hm, we have something about that project too, but, we're saving bad news for the end of this report…
Here's what Hahn had to say about his work:
“I'm actually trying to work out a 3D conversion of The Lion King. I'll be doing that when I go back to the States in a couple of weeks. It's going to be spectacular – we will do a good job for ya!”
We have no doubt, really, especially since we all know this film was the highest grossing animated film of all time in the United States, and received positive reviews from critics who praised the film for its music and story.
During its release in 1994, the film grossed more than $ 783 million worldwide, becoming the most successful film released that year, and it is currently the 29 highest-grossing feature film! You don't have to consult some astrologer to see that (the possible) 3D version of this story has word SUCCESS written all over it…
But this is not all! The original writers of Who Framed Roger Rabbit are working on a sequel to this movie/cartoon hybrid.
“If you're a fan, pretty soon you're going to be very, very, very happy,” Hahn added. He also stated that even though The Snow Queen's script has been shelved, other Disney releases like Beauty and the Beast were shelved as well due to the script not being able to come together:
“It's actually been tabled right now…we don't have the story. It's a bit like Beauty and the Beast, which sat there for years…The Snow Queen we've had a lot of trouble with and I've spent years on it. I love it and I think it's one of the last great fairy tales. It's kind of crappy that it's just sitting there right now.”
Then do something about it! We'll keep an eye on you!
