We’ve already seen some Sherlock Holmes 2 set photos featuring the main characters Sherlock and Watson as played by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
Now, Warner Bros. has released the first official image from the upcoming sequel.
A new action-packed adventure, following the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes and his longtime trusted associate, Dr. Watson as they match wits with their arch-nemesis, the criminal genius Moriarty.
We don’t know much about the movie but the villainous Professor Moriarty will obviously play a larger part in Sherlock Holmes 2 after his brief pseudo-anonymous appearance in the first movie (essentially a dark unrecognizable figure in a carriage).
So, the movie, again directed by Guy Ritchie from the script by Kieren Mulroney and Michele Mulroney, stars Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law as Watson, Noomi Rapace as a French gypsy, Stephen Fry as the elder Sherlock, Mycroft and Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty, the arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holmes.
There were rumors that Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Irene Adler, but, according to some reports her role will be minimal.
Sherlock Holmes 2 is due out on December 16, 2011.
