UFC Champion Georges St-Pierre Joins CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
Another professional fighter will reportedly be a part of the Phase Two plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Georges St-Pierre (GSP), the current UFC kickboxing champion has just signed on for a role in the highly-anticipated sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Canadian mixed martial artist and UFC Welterweight Champion has been cast in the role of Batroc the Leaper.
Batroc is described as one of the Marvel Universe's most enduring villains, a bad guy with no superhuman abilities, but killer muscles and impeccable athleticism. He's an Olympic-level weightlifter and his incredible leg muscles enable him to leap insane distances. Born Georges Batroc, he served in the French Foreign Legion, before he's into stuff like theft and a costumed mercenary work. He can speak both English and French.
GSP, who hails from Quebec, has very little professional acting experience, so it's not a great leap to assume that Batroc is only appearing in the movie to engage in an acrobatic fight sequences.
Robert Redford, as reported, will be playing a high ranking SHIELD office and the new report says that his name is Pierre.
The Winter Soldier, due for release on April 4th, 2014, is already set to see Chris Evans return as the titular hero for the third time, joined by newcomers Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes /The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, and Anthony Mackie as The Falcon.
The superhero movie directed by Joe and Anthony Russo will also feature the return of Toby Jones as Arnim Zola and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and it's been rumored that it will have Scarlett Johansson back as Black Widow as well.
