The Oscar-winning star of films like The Usual Suspects, Traffic and 21 Grams, Benicio Del Toro has joined the killer cast for Marvel Studios upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy.
The cast of the James Gunn-directed/written Marvel's franchise launcher has been growing exponentially over the last few weeks with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, David Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and most recently Glenn Close and Karen Gillan all set to star.
Del Toro's role is being kept under wraps, but it's said to be a significant character as to his importance could lie in the fact that he's signed a deal including options to appear in future Marvel movies.
Let`s speculate: there's the possibility of Doctor Strange, a renowned and gifted neurosurgeon whose talent was only overshadowed by his ego, or it could be the casting of the big purple guy Thanos last seen at the very end of The Avengers, or maybe Del Toro is finally getting to play Khan. A new rumor has surfaced saying that he could play Ronan the Accuser, a good enough villain to face off against the Guardians.
The film is slated for an August 1, 2014 release with shooting to begin later this month in the U.K.
Del Toro most recently joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's new movie Inherent Vice – the role is said to be small, but crucial. He will next be seen in Jimmy P, which debuted in Cannes main competition.
Do you believe Del Toro should be seen as a hero?
