True Grit and Ender’s Game star Hailee Steinfeld has come aboard For the Dogs, where she’ll star alongside Aussie thesp Sam Worthington who signed on for the film in January.
The indie action thriller will be directed by Phillip Noyce (Salt), based on an adaptation of Kevin Wignall’s novel by TV star Paul Leyden.
Worthington’s character is Lucas, an assassin looking for redemption and Steinfeld’s character is Ella, an orphan out for revenge. She seeks the assistance of a semi-retired hitman after her parents were murdered to avenge their deaths.
While the lone assassin is looking for an exit from the violence, and a chaotic lifestyle, the college girl’s eagerness to resort to violence and bloodshed complicates matters quite a bit.
Meanwhile, there’s been a new draft by Oren Moverman (Rampart) while Leyden is still on hand as producer.
For the Dogs international and domestic deals should be falling into place in Cannes.
Steinfeld will next be seen in long-awaited Ender’s Game adaptation, followed by Carlo Carlei’s version of Romeo and Juliet with McG’s thriller Three Days to Kill and Tommy Lee Jones’ The Homesman down the line.
I really hope she won’t blame her heavy workload on film sets for her eventual single status.
