Holly Hunter has signed on to co-star in Diablo Cody’s directorial debut, which is still referred to as ‘Untitled Diablo Cody Project’.
Award- winning screenwriter for Juno, Cody has also scribed United States of Tara and the comedy-horror film Jennifer’s Body with Megan Fox that reveals bisexual tendencies, in addition to writing Young Adult, the film centers on an alcoholic young adult. But the woman first known for her candid chronicling of her year as a stripper in her Pussy Ranch blog, tries her hand at directing a comedy about a conservative young woman who survives a plane crash only to suffer a crisis of faith and explore her wild side in Vegas. And not to forget to mention Cody also wrote the film.
Formerly titled Lamb of God the film stars Julianne Hough as the young woman, along with Russell Brand who will play an unlikely companion that inadvertently helps her find her true self’ and The Help’s Octavia Spencer has been cast as a card dealer at the casino where Brand’s character works. Hunter is slated to play Hough’s character’s overprotective and conservative mother.
Filming will begin in the spring of 2012.
Hunter has wrapped the Walden Media drama Won’t Back Down and playing the title character in the Antoinette Beumer-directed indie flick Jackie. She’ll also be reuniting with her The Piano director Jane Campion for the BBC/Sundance Channel miniseries Top of the Lake.
Hunter is also set to re-unite with Jane Campion in Australia to lens the miniseries Top Of The Lake before playing Hough’s character mom.
