I Am Legend 2 Prequel Or Sequel?

Fiona September 1, 2011 11 comments
I Am Legend Earlier we reported that Warner Bros. was moving forward with a prequel “I Am Legend.” But now rumor has it that “I Am Legend 2” might indeed be a sequel after all. The original idea was for the film to take place “several years before the original film” and follow Will Smith's character Robert Neville as he fails to save a small pocket of survivors. AICN recently had a scooper email them about the new film:
Let's start at the beginning. Smith is actually the one who developed the initial story. It took place several years before the original film and there were still pockets of survivors and the story centered around Smith interacting, bonding, and ultimately failing to save them. For months this was the story. Warner's didn't much care for it and Smith and Weiss eventually came on board and all parties agreed to change things up. Well this change is pretty insane, the film is no longer a prequel, it's a f@#*ing sequel!
The site also said that they had never never tested this source before, so this news should be “consumed with a grain of salt.” Of course, the studio hasn't commented on the development of I Am Legend 2.

First off the alternative cut DVD to I am Legend was superior to the theatrical cut. The two added scenes while brief, were effective, as they fleshed out the Girl and the little boy. The ending was much better paced and it set things up for a sequel. Since the powers to be at WB are stupid and didn’t use this version they are scrambling to find a way to bring Will Smith back. I say the concept will sell. Set the stoty in another major city and cast an actress such as Jennifer Garner, and market the film as the last female of earth. It would work. Use real actors for the vampires and stay away from the CGI. For the record I loved the Omega Man. While not totally faithful to the novel that film was really good with a great score. Heston’s death scene was beautifully paced and a classic!

I agree the alternate version was better. Why not leave the main character alive in hopes of a sequel? There was so much that was unexplored in this film. Charlton Heston is one of my favorite actors and Omega Man one of my favorite films. Will Smith did a great job of capturing Neville's persona. I'd like to see him do it again.

Well for the first time I watch this movie”I Am Legend” it seems kind a boring because the movie did not give excitement it merely boring and dry . But later on I did found it interesting though.
It has good execution of the movie.Even though it has sad ending because the actor was dead but not clearly proven/stated
It is not always a HAPPY ENDING when the movie ends.

Though, there is an explanation for that it may be have a sequels.
If there were a sequels of this movie my guess would be
    1. The second sequels of the movie at the beggining They will show the very last part of the movie when Robert”will Smith” was blown in there house not dead and his only injured and he lives.
    2. And he will also be the lead actor of the second sequel

Well they are obviously having a hard time thinking of what to do..how about this..they make a sequel..it starts off with the ending of that last one..so he blows him self up..then snaps back into reality and that was just a daydream..the he realizes they want the girl then he gives the girl to them the go away they leave to the base..bam theres the start of the 2nd movie..just both endings of the first one combined..will smith lives and they can continue right off there and do what they wish

its easy to bring him back. If you noticed that the infected still understood love and human behavior. will smith comes back infected but instead of eat and killing, he is still working to turn him self back and the world. remember he found the cure, so it wouldnt be hard for him to be bitten then turn around and take the cure to heal himself back.

He says in the movie the infected have lost charecteristics for human behavior. I, assume that this would have changed him to be exactly like them. cause thats what happend to the dog. so i dont think he’d know most of the recollections that happend to him before being infected/ blown up.

I have an Idea. Smith can wake up at the start of the next film and it can only have been a dream. From then the story can use the alternate ending of the first film from which the sequel can be developed. Clever; yes?
This will give realism and scope for the next film to be developed.A cheque from the producers would be nice!
