The action-epic, based on the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, follows a former Confederate captain (Taylor Kitsch) who is mysteriously transported to Mars, and must resolve a conflict between warring nations.
The film also stars Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston and Thomas Hayden Church.
John Carter is directed by Andrew Stanton, who helmed Pixar's Wall-E and Finding Nemo, making his first live-action film, and is set to hit 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on March 9th, 2012.
