A week ago we wrote about the possible involvement of Jamie Foxx in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino‘s project titled Django Unchained, when you learned that he's the front-runner for the role of Django.
Today, we're here to confirm that those rumors were true, and that Mr. Foxx will join the cast that, at this moment, includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson. Welcome on board Foxx!
So, as you already know, Django Unchained is the story that will follow: Django (Foxx), a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself.
After assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, Django is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner.
Yes, that means Christoph Waltz is on board to star as a German bounty hunter, but he's not the villain, because we have Leonardo DiCaprio set to play the villain, character named Calvin Candie, who operates a Mississippi plantation called Candyland where he pits male slaves against each other in brutal fights to the death when he isn't busy sexually exploiting female slaves.
In addition to Waltz and DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson will play the house slave to the bad guy, Monsieur Calvin Candie.
As for Jamie Foxx, we must remind you that Tarantino originally offered the role to Will Smith, but after Smith passed on it, Tarantino met with actors like Idris Elba, Terrence Howard and Chris Tucker, who were all contenders for the part. Congratulations once again, Foxx!
Django Unchained is slated to hit theaters on December 25th, 2012. As usual, we'll keep an eye on it!
