The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society, Cover
Kate Winslet to Star in Kenneth Branagh Romance
Another book with fascinating title will have to be adapted for the big-screen. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society is an unusual pen-pal style love story set in the wake of WWI London and adapted for the screen by Don Roos with Kenneth Branagh decided to go back to what he does best – to direct a serious, dramatic adaptation like this one.
Branagh is reportedly teaming up for the second time with Kate Winslet since the 1996 big-screen production of Hamlet.
Winslet ‘will play writer Juliet Ashton, who penned columns for a magazine during World War II. After the war, she is contacted by Channel Islander Dawsey Adams and, as their correspondence continues, the story unfolds of how a book society was established on Nazi-occupied Guernsey to fool curfew patrols.'
It was the first and only novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and her niece Annie Barrows, who helped her finish the book after she became fatally ill. Besides, Guernsey is a British island in the Channel Islands.
However, Branagh who can currently be seen on screen playing Sir Laurence Olivier described the project as ‘a beautiful romance, very touching and uplifting.
Shooting for Guernsey is due to start in March.
This year Kate will also be reuniting with another of her best known co-stars – Leonardo DiCaprio. The pair will be promoting the 3D version of James Cameron's blockbuster Titanic in April.
Stay tuned.
