Lars von Trier’s Melancholia

Fiona December 8, 2011 Add a Comment
Kirsten Dunst When you see this kind of title, then you know some psycho-movie is coming. This time it's psychological sci-fi disaster film titled Melancholia, that already has an impressive cast list –  Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander & Stellan Skarsgaard and Udo Kier. The whole thing will be directed by , and yes, it is “that” Lars von Trier, that has been known to test his actresses in outlandish and subversive ways. Dear God protect them all from this Antichrist director! Ok, enough joking! Yes, we all know that Von Trier definitely has a good experience when it comes to these psycho-horror projects, and if you had a chance to watch that 2009 horror-drama named Antichrist, then you know what we're talking about. You also remember that Charlotte Gainsbourg had a role in that one too, next to Willem Dafoe, so looks like she got the director's confidence and that's why we'll have a chance to see her in this Melancholia team. On the other hand, we were little surprised when we heard that Kirsten Dunst is joining, since we all knew that rumor at first moment included Penelope Cruz. But, in the mean time, lot of things changed, and the former Spider-Man star was offered the part when Penelope Cruz decided to drop it in order to be in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Still, we have no problem with this decision, and a leading role in Lars von Trier's movie wouldn't be hard for the 27-year-old Dunst that has been a star since she was a child. We all know she played in many movies including, her famous young role with Tom Cruise in Interview with a Vampire and was nominated several times for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress. We still don't have any detailed information to share with you, except this cast-list, and the fact that movie will start shooting in July to September in southern Sweden. At this moment we only know that it's about the wayward planet Melancholia that threatens the Earth with destruction, but we'll soon be back with more info about this one, so stay tuned!
