In Sundance largest deal so far,
Drake Doremus's relationship drama
Like Crazy sold worldwide rights to Paramount (and
Indian Paintbrush) for $4 million. On day three of the
Sundance Film Festival Doremus' third feature was picked up for distribution a few hours after its world premiere.
A Paramount spokeswoman confirmed that the studio had taken worldwide rights to the film. UTA's
Rich Klubeck led the sale. Indian Paintbrush is a film financing and production company run by
Steven Rales, a high net worth investor who has just started the film business.
The story of a relationship between two young people (stunningly played by
Anton Yelchin and
Felicity Jones) that covers two continents and a number of years, “Like Crazy” brings an emotional intimacy and breathtaking delicacy to show the pulse of love, longing and regret. Doremus says
Pure-hearted, emotionally involving films are what's capturing my heart right now. It's all about capturing that emotional truth.”

The fact that “Like Crazy” allows us to feel we're not watching characters but real persons is due not only to the skill of those involved but to the fact that the film (co-written by
Ben York Jones) is based in experiences Doremus has had. The film was made with an unusual, improvisational technique that also comes out of his past.
Absolutely be on the lookout for this film to show up in theaters sometime in 2011!
