M.C. Gainey For Role in DJANGO UNCHAINED

Another bit of casting news for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained, which is gearing up to go into production this November with a January New Orleans shoot. This time, it involves veteran character actor M.C. Gainey, who is in talks to join the already impressive cast. The Mississippi native would play Big John Brittle, a very nasty slavemaster who sets the main plot into motion in Tarantino's so-called ‘spaghetti Southern.' – Brittle rapes Django's wife, Broomhilda, before brandingDjango's cheek with the letter ‘R,' which stands for ‘runaway.' It's assuming that negotiations culminate, but there's no reason to expect they wouldn't. Gainey has for decades made a living off of playing nasty characters (most notably Mr. Friendly on the ABC series ‘Lost'). It is also important that he's a former New Orleans resident and local music fanatic who is always game for a trip back home. In fact, his first acting show was as a stand-in on director Walter Hill's 1975 action film ‘Hard Times, which was filmed in New Orleans. M.C. Gainey's last local acting gig was on the upcoming Nicolas Cage heist movie Medallion, helmed by Simon West. If he signs on to Tarantino's film, he would join a cast that already includes Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Laura Cayouette and possibly Kurt Russell. Django Unchained is scheduled to be released on December 25th, 2012.
