John Requa and Glenn Ficarra‘s crime caper, Focus has had its fair share of casting hiccups. After a long two-year search to find the right actors, Warner Bros can finally breathe easy now that production is moving toward a green light.
Originally scripted as a starring vehicle for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, but when the actors were unavailable, producers turned to Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart who also dropped out.
Will Smith signed up to the male lead in April and Michelle Williams, Jessica Biel, Rose Byrne and Olivia Munn have all reportedly been screen tested for the part, but Margot Robbie is expected to receive an official offer shortly.
Best known for the TV shows ‘Neighbours’ and ‘Pan A’, Robbie will join Smith in the story of a veteran con man who has a romantic fling with a young upstart, only to have their past get in the way years later during a job.
The Australian actress who will get her big break in upcoming Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street is also among the stars in the running for Disney’s Cinderella.
Additionally, Robbie has Richard Curtis’ time-travel romance About Time and Suite Francaise coming soon and there’s also crime thriller Violent Talent in which she’ll be star opposite Garrett Hedlund as a gangster’s moll.
