Yesterday, in a press release about the foreign distribution rights to the José Padilha‘s remake of Paul Verhoven’s sci-fi classic, RoboCop the first official synopsis was revealed.
For those familiar with the world of Alex Murphy the newly revealed plot details for the remake come as no surprise.
Joel Kinnaman (The Darkest Hour) plays the title character; Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) is on board as the creator of the metallic law-enforcer and cool Samuel L. Jackson will portray Pat Novak, ‘a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the RoboCop world’.

The year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.
Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

The movie which also stars Abbie Cornish and Hugh Laurie is set to be released on August 9th, 2013.
