Olivia Wilde and
Hailee Steinfeld have signed on to co-star in the upcoming Civil War thriller
The Keeping Room, along with
Nicole Beharie.
Daniel Barber's (Harry Brown) sophomore effort was written by
Julia Hart and is scheduled to begin filming in March in North Carolina.
The Civil War-era drama focuses on two Southern sisters (Wilde, Steinfeld) and a slave (Beharie) who have to defend their home from some rogue Union soldiers who have broken off from the main army in order to plunder and pillage the land.
Director Barber said in a statement:
I am thrilled to be working with these three fantastic actors, and very excited to be directing this great script.
Producer Jordan Horowitz added:
The Keeping Room is a cinematic, thrilling, and dangerous piece of material and we could not be more excited with the team that has come together to bring this unique story to the screen.
In his summing up, Sierra/Affinity CEO Nick Meyer said that they are thrilled to be part of this special project filled with profound themes and that Barber is a talented up-and-coming filmmaker, and that they look forward to seeing his vision of the material realized.
As for Wilde, she'll next be seen in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, before co-starring in Ron Howard's Rush, while Steinfeld will soon be seen in Romeo and Juliet and in the sci-fi adaptation Ender's Game; Beharie starred in Shame and the upcoming 42 biopic on Jackie Robinson.
