Bigger and better! Consider this as a huge Pacific Rim update, 'cause today we have an awesome featurette and two great character posters to share with you! As you're about to see, this new 4-minute video is all about del Toro's giant piloted robots Jaegers, while new posters highlight Charlie Day‘s Dr Newton Geiszler and Burn Gorman‘s Dr. Hermann Gottlieb. Definitely worth your full attention!
So, you already know the plot – to combat those awful monstrous creatures – Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.
This new Jaegers: Mech Warriors featurette is your perfect chance to take another behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the movie's “hunters”, and to hear what director Guillermo del Toro and his Pacific Rim designers have to say about the whole thing. Looks impressive!
In case you forgot, del Toro previously explained that:
…they each have a name, and they are as much characters as the pilots. I wanted each robot to have a personality and for you to feel when the robot gets hurt or when the robot wins. Frankly, also for the Kaiju.
And, while we're still here at the pilots-part of the story, I will remind you that the movie stars Charlie Hunnam as a washed up former pilot Raleigh Becket and Rinko Kikuchi as an untested trainee Mako Mori (click on their names to check out their character posters) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.
The rest of the cast looks pretty cool, as well, and includes Idris Elba, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Ron Perlman, Clifton Collins Jr. and…
Well, you already see from our title – Charlie Day is Dr. Newton Geizler and Burn Gorman is Dr. Hermann Gottlieb in this sci-fi spectacle, which is set to hit theaters on July 12th, 2013.
