Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER Joins Venice Competition?

Fiona July 30, 2012 Add a Comment
Joaquin Phoenix in The Master What a mess! Even though Paul Thomas Anderson's latest project, The Master was not included in the Venice Film Festival program released last week, we already have rumors that the movie will play in Competition at this Festival after all. Who's right? We have no idea! The only thing we know for sure is that the movie opens this September. Or maybe the rest of this report hides more details? Check it out… Venice Film Festival starts on August 29th and I guess you already saw our report where we shared the full lineup for the whole thing. The Master is (still?) not on that list, but according to some reports – the movie is definitely in! As the matter of fact, Deadline reports that The Master has now been locked, and that Harvey Weinstein will get a prime Saturday slot to launch it into the Oscar-season fray. As you already know, the movie follows a charismatic intellectual who launches a religious organization following World War II. Soon, a drifter becomes his right-hand man but as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the drifter finds himself questioning the belief system and his mentor. The Master has an awesome cast on board which includes Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Laura Dern, and is now set to open on September 14th, 2012.
