Here's something official. Relativity Media has closed a deal with Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper to rewrite (Brad Ingelsby‘s script The Low Dweller) and direct the upcoming project titled Out of the Furnace.
We're definitely interested in Cooper's involvement with this movie that is already being described as a “dark drama” and if you share our opinion, make sure to check out the rest of this report.
The script is set in Indiana in 1986, and follows Slim, “a man released after serving years in prison for murder who wants only to follow through on his promise to marry his long-suffering girlfriend. But when he discovers his brother has been murdered after getting involved in a gambling racket, his goals change and he avenges the murder.”
Guys from Relativity are quite excited with this decision, since we had a chance to hear this kind of explanation from their President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley:
“Scott Cooper drew raw emotion from the story and inspired amazing performances from his actors in Crazy Heart. We are excited for him to shepherd this project.”
Alongside Relativity, the film is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way and Ridley and Tony Scott's Scott Free with Energy Entertainment.
Production on Out of the Furnace is targeted to start sometime in 2011, and, as usual, we'll keep an eye on it!
