Upcoming Oscar hopeful
The Master,
Paul Thomas Anderson's follow-up to Oscar-winning There Will Be Blood, will be heading to Venice at the start of next month, so there may be preparation underway at the Lido for a 70mm presentation.
The Master will also play at the Toronto Film Festival before it finally opens in theaters on September 14th, 2012.
However, PTA's long awaited film will have another surprise screening tonight at the legendary Music Box Theatre in Chicago in 70mm.
For all of us having no luck with surprise screenings and film festivals a new trailer for The Master presented as ‘She Wrote a Letter' has arrived, giving us our third look at the film.
Speaking on the film's subject matter with EW last week, specifically the connections to L. Ron Hubbard,
Philip Seymour Hoffman said,
It's not the L. Ron Hubbard story. (Scientology) was one of the bigger movements at the time, but there were a lot of movements at that time. There's nothing about how I'm behaving or talking that echoes (Hubbard). I thought of a lot of other bigger-than-life personalities, charismatic people like Orson Welles. Joaquin's character is like a beaten dog, no matter where he goes, [he] gets into severe trouble. And somehow I'm able to deal with him.
After a few folks see it tonight we'll get the answer at least as to who is the lead in this thing,
Joaquin Phoenix or Hoffman.
Radiohead's
Jonny Greenwood‘s score for The Master is another gorgeous piece of work and along with Phoenix bearing his soul to Hoffman's character, we also get the best look yet at
Amy Adams. Enjoy.
