Pixar and Toy Story fans rejoice as this year you shall be considered to not just one new Toy Story short film, but now two.
It had been earlier reported that a new ‘Toy Story' short film would be played before screenings of Pixar's Cars 2 in June 24. Now Pixar have revealed through Variety that a following all new ‘Toy Story' short will hit this year as well, this time in November with Disney's The Muppets. Details are unspecified up till now of what the story to the second short will go after.
The short that will be shown in front of ‘Cars 2' will center on the characters of Barbie and Ken after their exploits in Toy Story 3. Being left behind their Hawaii vacation, Buzz Lightyear and Woody attempt to recreate a Hawaii paradise to please the disappointed Barbie and Ken. The above synopsis comes from the children's book ‘Play-Cation!', based on the upcoming short called Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation.
Cars 2 is released in the US through June 24th and the UK from July 22nd.
‘The Muppets' is released across the US from November 23rd, and the UK from February 17th, 2012.
Pixar hasn't had a movie that wasn't a huge success yet. Also Pixar has stated many times that “Toy Story 3” will be the last film in the franchise. Before coming to a conclusion remind yourself of screenwriter Lee Unkrich words:
I really tried my best to end the story of Andy and his toys and bring that story to a close in a really nice way at the end of this film. That being said, we know that people love the characters, love Woody and Buzz, and would hate to say good-bye to them completely. I don't know that there would ever be a “Toy Story 4. ” We don't have any plans for one — but we are trying to find ways to keep the characters alive. We have announced we're going to do a short film in front of Cars 2: World Grand Prix that uses the Toy Story characters. We're going to keep them alive; they're not going away forever.”
