Back in November, was announced that British up and coming actresses Felicity Jones and Imogen Poots had signed on for Iain Softley's indie project Trap For Cinderella.
Since then, both Jones and Poots launched big buzz around them – Jones gained critical acclaim for her role in Sundance hit Like Crazy, and previews for this summer's Fright Night are recommending an exceptional performance from Poots. Jones has been working on David Hare‘s Page Eight, and the comedy Cheerful Weather for the Wedding in the last few months, and was a candidate for the lead role in Snow White and the Huntsman which was finally taken by Kristen Stewart.
Poots seems is ruled out because of scheduling conflicts since she lined up for roles in A Late Quartet, The Laureate and Hello Darkness. And it doesn't seem to have paid of for Softley, as Jones and Poots are exited, and are replaced by two more or less unknown British actors, Tuppence Middleton and Alexandra Roach.
Middleton is maybe best known for her role in UK flick Skeletons, but Roach, a graduate of the famous RADA School, will quickly be getting her big smash alongside Meryl Streep in Iron Lady. Roach will be playing a younger Margaret Thatcher to Streep's famous 80′s Thatcher, nicknamed the Iron Lady for her tough mind.
The storyline of Trap For Cinderella, which is based on the novel A Very Long Engagement by Sebastian Japrisot and follows “a girl, Micky, who wakes up badly burned after a fire in which her best friend, Do, died.”
Iain Softley credits include the Beatles film Backbeat (1994), Hackers (1995), The Wings of the Dove (1997), K-PAX (2001), The Skeleton Key (2005) and Inkheart (2008). His script, here in Trap for Cinderella, is strong, suggesting a rather gripping Black Swan-style melodrama.
Cinderella is expected to begin filming next month, with an uncertain release date for 2012.
