Venice 2011: Yorgos Lanthimos’ ALPS Photos and Teaser Trailer

Alps I guess that today is the perfect day to start our 68th journey to the upcoming Venice Film Festival. Just in case you’re wondering why, let me just remind you that the Festival starts on August 31st and runs till September 10th 2011, which actually means we have a lot of work to do. So, let’s start with something exclusive, and on the other hand, something quite familiar to you – the upcoming Yorgos Lanthimos movie, titled Alps that is set to premiere in competition at the 68th Venice International Film Festival! Alps We previously had a report with some interesting and a little bit crazy 15 rules that are featured in this movie, but today we’re going to continue our Alps chat by giving you the first photos and the first teaser from the project which stars Aggeliki Papoulia, Ariane Labed, Aris Servetalis and Johnny Vekris. Written by Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou, movie follows a Nurse, a Paramedic, a Gymnast and her Coach who have formed a service for hire. They stand in for dead people by appointment, hired by the relatives, friends, or colleagues of the deceased. Aggeliki Papoulia in Alps The company is called Alps while their leader, the Paramedic, calls himself Mont Blanc. Although the Alps members operate under a discipline regime demanded by their leader, the Nurse doesn’t… I must admit that this looks creepy enough for me, so Alps is definitely something worth my attention. Actually I’m a fan of Doogtooth, so I’ll give Alps a try too. Alps On the other hand, Lanthimos already revealed that this will be a different story, and that “…It’s mainly about death and substitution in a way. If you can substitute people that have died with other people and how difficult that can be. It involves the stories of many people, and I guess it has similarities with ‘Dogtooth’ in its tone, because it’s quite dark as well, but is also funny and violent. It’s contradictory, like ‘Dogtooth’ is.” What do you think? Will Lanthimos’s Alps repeat Oscar-nominated Dogtooth success?   Yorgos Lanthimos Alps Movie Photo
