Here's the first official trailer for
Sam Raimi's
Oz: The Great and Powerful, just debuted in San Diego at the Disney
Comic Con Panel.
The first footage from the highly anticipated Disney's fantastical adventure based on the L. Frank Baum's original stories ‘The Wizard of Oz' as you can see in the trailer below did not disappoint.
James Franco stars as s small-time magician, Oscar Diggs, a slash-con artist who gets sucked into the world of Oz during a fantastical black-and-white prologue; once there, he encounters all sorts of bizarre creatures, as well as three witches: Theodora (
Mila Kunis), Evanora (
Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (
Michelle Williams), and transforms himself into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.
However, don't expect appearances from Tin Man, Cowardly Lion or Scarecrow, neither Dorothy's famed ruby slippers.
As Raimi told Comic-Con attendees:
(The ruby slippers) are imagery unique to the (original) MGM film, so no, they don't make an appearance in this one.
Oz: The Great and Powerful, the movie which definitely has a very Alice in Wonderland feel will be released March 8th, 2013.
