Who Will Play Young Elle Woods? Madison Wolfe and Lexi Minetree Vie for ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Role

When Reese Witherspoon strutted onto our screens as Elle Woods in 2001's Legally Blonde, she didn't just play a character—she created an icon. Elle's journey from sorority girl to Harvard Law powerhouse was a masterclass in blending humor, heart, and empowerment. Now, over two decades later, Amazon MGM Studios is diving back into Elle's world with a prequel series, and the race to cast a young Elle is down to two talented actresses: Madison Wolfe and Lexi Minetree.

According to Deadline, Wolfe (Mayfair Witches, True Detective) and Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders, Law & Order: SVU) have emerged as the finalists for the role. Dozens of young actresses were considered, but these two have made it to the final round. No decision has been made yet, but insiders say an announcement is imminent.

Reese Witherspoon, who executive produces the series through her Hello Sunshine banner, has been tight-lipped about the project, but her enthusiasm is palpable. A few weeks ago, she hinted that casting was underway, and it seems the process is nearing its climax. The prequel, created by Laura Kittrell (Girls5Eva), will explore Elle's high school years, shedding light on the experiences that shaped her into the fearless, fashion-forward lawyer we all adore.

Why This Casting Matters
Casting a young Elle Woods is no small feat. The character is a cultural touchstone, embodying wit, resilience, and unapologetic femininity. Madison Wolfe, known for her haunting performance in The Conjuring 2 and her recent turn in Mayfair Witches, brings a depth of emotion to her roles. Lexi Minetree, on the other hand, has proven her chops in true crime dramas like The Murdaugh Murders and Law & Order: SVU, showcasing a versatility that could easily translate to Elle's bubbly yet determined persona.

The original Legally Blonde was a sleeper hit, grossing 141millionworldwideonan141millionworldwideonan18 million budget. It spawned a sequel, a Broadway musical, and countless memes. The prequel series has big shoes to fill, but with Witherspoon at the helm and a talented creative team behind it, the project is poised to capture the magic of the original while carving out its own identity.

What to Expect from the Prequel
The series will follow Elle in high school, exploring the formative moments that shaped her worldview. Will we see the origins of her love for fashion? Her first brush with heartbreak? The moments that taught her to stand up for herself and others? Laura Kittrell, who serves as showrunner, has a knack for blending humor and heart, making her the perfect choice to helm this project.

Production is set to begin in March, and fans are already buzzing with anticipation. Will Madison Wolfe's dramatic intensity bring a new layer to Elle's character? Or will Lexi Minetree's versatility win over the casting directors? Whoever lands the role, one thing is certain: Elle Woods' legacy is in good hands.

Personal Impressions
As a longtime fan of the Legally Blonde franchise, I'm equal parts excited and nervous about this prequel. Elle Woods is a character who resonates because she's unapologetically herself—a rare quality in a world that often asks women to shrink themselves. The casting of a young Elle is crucial; the actress needs to capture that spark of determination and charm that made Reese Witherspoon's performance so iconic.

Madison Wolfe and Lexi Minetree are both excellent choices, but I can't help but wonder: will the prequel live up to the original's legacy? Or will it fall into the trap of over-explaining a character who thrived on mystery and spontaneity? Only time will tell, but with Reese Witherspoon involved, I'm optimistic.

Who do you think should play young Elle Woods—Madison Wolfe or Lexi Minetree? Or is there another actress you'd love to see in the role? Let us know in the comments!
