The Weinstein Company has released a new quad poster  for Coriolanus.

Two-time Oscar nominee and world-class thespian Ralph Fiennes is not only starring as the title character, he’s making his directorial debut. Along with Fiennes the film also stars Gerard Butler, Brain Cox, Jessica Chastain, Vanessa Redgrave, James Nesbitt, and many actors to represent the story’s move to Eastern Europe.

The Weinstein Company has sent over the first official poster for Coriolanus, an updated adaptation of the William Shakespeare play of the same name.

The film is Ralph Fiennes directorial debut. He is familiar with the play because he was part of a stage production that was directed by Jonathan Kent. The screenplay is written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Sweeney Todd and The Aviator).

John Logan, Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox all star in Coriolanus which will be released by The Weinstein Company nationwide on December 2nd, 2011.

Here is the first UK trailer for Coriolanus, an updated adaptation of the William Shakespeare play of the same name. Ralph Fiennes not only starred in the film, but he directed it as well, and he placed the story in a gritty contemporary modern technological setting. He also hired cinematographer Barry Ackroyd (The Hurt Locker) and cameraman Oliver Driscoli (Green Zone) to help get the gritty look for the film that you will see in the trailer below.

The Berlin International Film Festival, or if you prefer – the Berlinale, is one of the world’s leading film festivals, and something that’s definitely worth our attention.

And if you thought we were going to miss this spectacle – you were wrong, because we’re also curious to find out who will return home with the Golden and Silver Bears statues!

The 2011 Berlin film festival opens tonight with the Coen brothers‘ Western remake True Grit, so let’s get started.

We all know, this remake of a 1969 classic Western, is already a nominee in even 10 categories, including best picture for the upcoming Oscar. And, by the way the filmmaking team Joel and Ethan Cohen also earned Oscar nods as best director.

Ralph Fiennes will make his directorial debut with an adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s Roman tragedy “Coriolanus.” Fiennes will also play the title role, Roman general Caius Martius – Coriolanus.

Fiennes will direct from the script by John Logan (“Gladiator,” “The Aviator,” “The Last Samurai,” “Sweeney Todd“).

“People who have read it think it’s a page-turner,” said Fiennes. “I want it to be an edge-of-the-seat film.”
