Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Johnson In ANNA KARENINA First Look
We’re all familiar with the epic love story – classic novel Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy and many adaptation of the same, right?
But, it would be interesting to see another one adaptation of above mentioned story, only this time directed by Joe Wright from the script by Tom Stoppard.
Joe Wright’s ANNA KARENINA Starring Keira Knightley Official Synopsis
Joe Wright is a man responsible for titles like Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and a director who obviously has some kind of crush on Keira Knightley. Why?
Well, because his upcoming Anna Karenina movie marks their third collaboration!
At this moment Anna Karenina still has no USA release date but at least we have an official synopsis part to share with you!
Joe Wright to Direct African Adventure Stanley
Joe Wright is quite busy guy these days. We already wrote about his upcoming Anna Karenina adaptation, so no, this report has nothing to do with that one! Today we’re here for something totally different, because, according to the latest reports, Wright will be in charge for Stanley, project that will be based on Tim Jeal‘s book Stanley: The Impossible Life of Africa’s Greatest Explorer. Yes, it’s time for an adventure!
So, thanks to guys from ThePlaylist, this book tells the story of true life Victorian journalist and explorer Sir Henry Morton Stanley, who is “said to have coined the phrase “Dr. Livingstone, I presume” but more importantly his extensive, and harrowing, journey down the Congo River is said to have inspired Joseph Conrad’s “Heart Of Darkness.”
When they asked Wright when he might make the project, he answered: “I don’t know, at the moment. I have no idea. It’d be really good. And I’d really like to go to Africa. My father is from Africa, so I’d really like to go and explore where he was from. But I’m not sure. The problem is you never really end up making the films you want to make. A career is what happens when you’re developing other screenplays.”
Hanna Review
Currently, we’re in the throes of a Hollywood obsession to bring fairy tales to the big screen. It’s a fad that’s years away from peaking, leaving the sneaky triumph of “Hanna” all the more bewitching.
It’s not exactly “Snow White” or “Alice in Wonderland,” but a weird, swirling amalgamation of the Grimm Brothers’ catalog, sharpened to Ginsu standards by the Euro sensibilities of director Joe Wright. Think of a fantastical storybook odyssey crossed with “The Bourne Identity,” and you’ll have a slightly accurate read of the moviegoing pleasures of this surreal, neck-snapping revenge escapade…read more [DrarkHorizons]
Saoirse Ronan to Join Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina?
Joe Wright‘s adaptation of Anna Karenina is coming, and I’m sure you’re all interested to find out more details about this project. So are we, and today, we’re here for a little update. Or, maybe, just a rumor, but you must admit that it sounds great.
Apparently, Saoirse Ronan, star of Wright’s upcoming Hanna may be joining the cast that already includes Keira Knightley, Aaron Johnson and Jude Law.
Ok, the director declined to confirm the whole thing at the moment but ThompsonOnHollywood, caught up with Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (the producers of the project), listed Ronan as a possibility as well.
But let me remind you what Wright recently had to say about lovely Ronan:
“I do believe in Saoirse very much. I think she can do anything she sets her mind to, terrifyingly. I was reading a Russian book recently, and I think it was Gogol who contended that belief is a talent, so the reason why the Russians have such extraordinary faith is that they have a massive talent for belief. Well, perhaps the Irish share that talent as Saoirse certainly has an extraordinary talent for it, plus an incredible imagination.”

Director Joe Wright Talks Anna Karenina
English director Joe Wright tells About.com the prospect of shooting Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina is in the fall. And that he got Oscar-winning screenwriter Tom Stoppard working on the script.
Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice) is currently doing press for his upcoming teen assassin thriller Hanna which looks like a big removal from his “Prejudice”. However, Wright is coming back to the world of classic literature adaptations:
I’m hoping to do ‘Anna Karenina’ in the Autumn and I’m reading about St. Petersburg society in the 18th century… You can make a 2 hour movie if you’ve got Tom Stoppard writing. He’s done an amazing script which involves Levin’s story as well as Anna’s story. Yeah, Tom Stoppard is just..also, he’s so immersed in Russian history and culture and identity or lack of it”
he says. According to The Daily Mail Tom Stoppard’s script was already done before Christmas 2010. Asked about settling such a heavy tome, Wright says:
I think Tolstoy wrote it as an accessible piece. It’s a family drama. ‘War and Peace’ was his big political drama and ‘Anna Karenina,’ as he says in the first sentence, is about families. ‘Happy families are all happy in the same way. Unhappy families are all unhappy in different ways.’
