The Nutcracker in 3D Trailer
Adam Shankman is Cracking Nuts!
Adam Shankman, whose New Line musical Rock of Ages is in post-production is ready to take on another high profile project that has seen numerous iterations on the stage and screen – The Nutcracker is one of those stories. After many versions, now, in the midst of the holiday season Hairspray director has got Nutcracker fever.
The film will be based on the classic story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, in which young Marie Stahlbaum's favorite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive.
It inspired the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov the perennial ballet The Nutcracker, which became one of Tchaikovsky's most famous compositions, and perhaps the most popular ballet in the world.
Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Killer, Shrek Forever After) is writing the project which will use the original 1815 book and is planned to be a late 2013 release via New Line. But, this version is said to be more dramatic and action-packed with a love story, of course.
Say what you will about the films, but as far as commercially, Shankman is a studio's dream – four of last five movies made 100 million.
