BRIDESMAIDS 2 Without Kristen Wiig?

Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids

One of the biggest box office success stories last year (grossing $288 million worldwide from just a $32 million budget), Bridesmaids, actually was a cute comedy too.

Of course, that's why Universal wants to move forward with a sequel. Well…ok. Wait a second, they want to do it without Kristen Wiig?

Good luck, guys! I mean, she was the best part of the movie!

Bridesmaids, written by Wiig and Annie Mumolo, has also been received Golden Globe, SAG and PGA nominations, but Wiig does not want to return. Here's what she had to say earlier in Semptember:

“We aren't working on that. Annie and I aren't planning a sequel. We are writing something else.”

Apparently, nothing has changed since then and Universal is still trying to move forward with Bridesmaids 2 which may focus on Melissa McCarthy‘s character (Megan).

“We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right. We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we'll move forward,” Universal rep said.

It is not known if director Paul Feig will return for the sequel. Here's what the producer, Judd Apatow, had to say:

“The key is we have to come up with an idea that is as good or better than the first one. We don't want to do it unless it can be great. I don't think anyone has had the brain space to think about it yet. Hopefully that can begin this year.”

I just hope Apatow wouldn't proceed without Wiig ‘s involvement.
