La Grande Bellezza, or if you prefer The Great Beauty is an upcoming drama directed by Paolo Sorrentino.
It is also one of the titles that will compete for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, so quite logically – we’re here to share the official trailers, one great classy poster and some awesome images from the film described as a portrait of today’s Rome. What a portrait that is when lovely Sabrina Ferilli stars in the whole thing…
Sorrentino directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Umberto Contarello, and the project will tell us the story of an aging journalist named Jap Gambardella who bitterly recollects his passionate, long lost youth.
In other words, Gambardella, played by Toni Servillo, is an aging culture and style journalist who recollects when he first arrived in the Eternal City at the age of 26 – just like Federico Fellini, whose ‘La Dolce Vita’ and ‘Satyricon’ are believed to have inspired the Cannes selection. On the other hand, Sorrentino’s rich cast of characters range from society ladies, ingenues, politicians, white-collar criminals and journalists to actors, impoverished nobles, prelates, artists and intellectuals, both real and imagined.
Beside Servillo, the rest of The Great Beauty includes Carlo Verdone, Sabrina Ferilli, Carlo Buccirosso, Iaia Forte, Pamela Villoresi, Galatea Ranzi plus a cameo appearance by Angelina Jolie.
Let me once again remind you that La Grande Bellezza will be competing at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival which will take place from the 15th to the 26th May.
