A capoeirista who married Monika Bellucci – respect! Oui, c'est lui, Vincent Cassel. Yep, producers Richard Rionda Del Castro and Gilles Thompson reportedly said that Cassel, who played the title character in the original Dobermann 1997 movie, is in talks to reprise his role as fascinating crook Yann Le Pentrec.
Turkey-born Tchéky Karyo will also take back the role of Inspector Crisitini, Dobermann's chief enemy, and Joël Houssin, who wrote the original, will scribe the Dobermann 2: Arm Wrestle (Bras de Fer) as well. No word if Jan Kounen, will return to direct ( in the meantime he became familiar with shamanism).
The $35 million film (the same sum as On Stranger Tides got off to a start Friday) will begin shooting in Europe next year. Actually, they aim to shoot next spring in French and English with an international cast.
Screenwriter Houssin revealed:
I spent several long nights with Vincent Cassel sharing our desire to give birth to the sequel of Dobermann , a cult classic that everyone is always asking us about.”
Producer Rionda Del Castro added:
Audiences all over the world have been waiting over 12 years for Dobermann 2 and this will be a spectacular action-packed European production, shot in French and English with not only French actors but also an international cast.”
As you know, Cassel played Thomas Leroy in Darren Aronofsky's critically acclaimed Black Swan, along Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and he will next be seen in upcoming historical feature A Dangerous Method directed by David Cronenberg and starring Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley.
