In exciting news for fans of early 2000s comedies, Chad Michael Murray is set to return as Jake in the highly anticipated Freaky Friday 2. Walt Disney Studios recently released a set photo showcasing Murray with an updated hairstyle and a new motorcycle, reigniting interest in the beloved character. This sequel, directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), promises to bring back the magic that made the original a hit while introducing fresh twists.

The original Freaky Friday, released in 2003, starred Lindsay Lohan as Anna and Jamie Lee Curtis as her mother, Tess. The body-swapping comedy followed their hilarious and heartfelt journey to understanding each other. Chad Michael Murray's Jake, Anna's love interest, won over audiences and Tess alike. The film concluded with Anna and Jake dating, much to Tess's approval.

Freaky Friday 2 reunites the original trio: Lohan, Curtis, and Murray. In addition to these stars, returning cast members include Mark Harmon as Ryan, Christina Vidal Mitchell as Maddie, Haley Hudson as Peg, Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei, Lucille Soong as Pei-Pei's mom, and Stephen Tobolowsky as Mr. Bates. Joining the cast are Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, and Sophia Hammons, bringing fresh faces and new dynamics to the story.

The sequel will pick up years after the first film, with Anna now a mother herself. The official synopsis hints at new chaos as Anna navigates the complexities of merging families and raising a daughter, all while facing the possibility of another body-swapping incident. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

Fans can look forward to Freaky Friday 2 hitting theaters in 2025. Until then, they can revisit the original film, which is available for streaming on Disney+. With a mix of nostalgia and new surprises, this sequel is shaping up to be a must-watch for both old fans and new audiences alike. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the release date!
