The American rocker Lenny Kravitz has reportedly signed on to British director Julian Temple‘s film depicting the last three years of the soul singer Marvin Gaye’s life.
The project is named after the Midnight Love album which Gaye recorded in Brussels in the early 80s and will also focus on the making of the album as well as his struggling with alcohol, drug addiction and mounting tax problems.
If the film starts in 1981, we’re assuming it includes a tragic day for music on April 1st, 1984 when Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his father Marvin Gay Sr.
The American Woman hit-maker has already proved his acting chops as Cinna in this year’s earlier monster hit movie The Hunger Games and with small role in Precious , but if the rumors are true, this will mark his debut as a leading man; Will Smith and Terrence Howard had previously been attached to the role.
The Marvin Gaye biopic will be shot in Gaye’s 80s residence–Ostend.
