MEMPHIS Musical Set Up For Big Screen
Alcon Entertainment, Belle Pictures and the Mark Gordon Co. are developing a film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Memphis.
Joe DiPietro, one of the musical's creators, will write the screen musical adaptation of the hugely popular stage show.
Broadway's smash hit comes from the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee telling the story of a relationship between a black singer and a white disc jockey, set against the early years of rock ‘n' roll.
DiPietro also co-wrote the play with David Bryan, Bon Jovi keyboardist.
Mark Gordon and Molly Smith are producing the film.
More on Memphis story as it develops.
Here's a trailer advertising live productions of the musical first filmed and then screened in movie theaters across the USA in the spring of 2011.
