Good news for all sci-fi fans out there:
Neill Blomkamp‘s next project
Chappie is (definitely) coming, and Sony Pictures Entertainment & MRC have agreed to co-produce and co-finance the whole thing. More robots, more gangsters and… well, more
Sharlto Copley, who's already set to star (read: to voice) the titular robot. Check out the rest of this report to find more details and read the official synopsis for the movie…
So, at this moment we know that Blomkamp will direct the pic from a script he co-wrote with
Terri Tatchell, which revolves around:
…a robot with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes.
Yep, that's pretty much all, but what definitely sounds great is that the film will star Copley as the voice of Chappie, as well as
Ninja and
Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo
Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.
Blomkamp will also produce the film with Simon Kinberg; Hannah Minghella and Rachel O'Connor will oversee the project for Sony Pictures, while Brye Adler will oversee for Media Rights Capital.
Production is expected to begin in the fall, so I guess we'll soon have more updates to share.
Stay tuned!
