For fans of gripping crime dramas and detective stories, Amazon Prime Video's new series Cross is poised to be a must-watch. Based on James Patterson's beloved detective, Alex Cross, the series is set to premiere on November 14, and the excitement is palpable. Starring Aldis Hodge in the titular role, Cross promises to bring a fresh, edgy take on the iconic character, set against the backdrop of Washington, DC.

Alex Cross has a storied history on screen, with Morgan Freeman having previously portrayed the detective in two films, Kiss the Girls (1997) and Along Came a Spider (2001), generating $165 million combined. However, these adaptations were not as well received by critics. In 2012, Tyler Perry took on the role, but the film was met with unfavorable reviews, even earning Perry a Razzie nomination for Worst Actor.

This new series, however, has fans and even Patterson himself feeling optimistic. Patterson recently expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The new Alex Cross series on Amazon with Aldis Hodge, that's good. That's the first one where I can look at it and really go, ‘Yup, it's edgier, it's more realistic about police work.' I really like the way that turned out.”

The showrunner, Ben Watkins, known for his work on Burn Notice, brings a level of expertise and vision that promises to elevate Cross to new heights. Amazon Studios has shown immense confidence in the series, renewing it for a second season before the first has even premiered.

For those who enjoy other literary adaptations, Prime Video also offers the Jack Reacher series and has the rights to the James Bond franchise, hinting at an exciting future for fans of spy thrillers.

With the November 14 release date fast approaching, now is the perfect time to delve into the world of Alex Cross. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the character, Cross promises to be an exhilarating ride that you won't want to miss.
